Large, shared, furniture items are often difficult for members to obtain on their own, and can be prohibitively expensive. Just like shared household items, providing furniture in common spaces is another easy way to dramatically increase the appeal of HomeRoom houses. This also creates the ideal areas to foster community connections.
What Kind of Furniture & Appliances Should I Provide?
In our experience, a good option is good quality, used furniture from estate sales. Our favorite approach is to find a local designer that can procure and install a furniture package for a flat rate. We’ve seen great results with costs ranging from $2000 - $3,000 using this process
HomeRoom requires these 3 areas be furnished:
Living Room: Should have seating for all future tenants, some interior design touches (this needs better definition), and a TV
Dining Room: Seating for all potential future roommates…we think it’s important to encourage community dining.
Kitchen & Laundry: HomeRoom requires owners to provide the following appliances:
Washer & Dryer: We recommend purchasing a used washer & dryer. The Kenmore 90-Series is our favorite (~$400 delivered)
Fridge: We recommend new (without water or ice dispensers) Capable models are available from Home Deport for the $700 range delivered
